We ordered a cocktail and one plate from each of the three categories. We tried Hop Alley at the recommendation of the concierge at ART. The service truly made this a fun experience. While we enjoyed the food, honestly my dietary restrictions limited the menu a bit which can seem a bit daunting however the service was so great by Chelsea and Risa, we would be foolish not to return. The food was interesting and while some of it seemed unconventional compared to “standards” you may be used to, any differences are clearly described on the website and by the servers.

Honestly only one interaction with staff wasn’t great (but things happen) the second lady refilling water, dark hair in a ponytail, was kind of curt/rude with me, but nothing serious. There was another lady who initially gave us water who was FANTASTIC and wanted to make sure we were taken care of (a fuller figured lady with blonde hair).

Our waitress Risa was WONDERFUL (fast, efficient, full of solid suggestions based on our dietary preferences).

in and take our drink orders when she noticed that we had been waiting at the incredibly busy bar, though all of the bartenders my mother interacted with were also very nice). Chelsea the hostess was super sweet to my mother and I (accommodating seating requirements, and even going so far as to jump. Luckily we had reservations as the place seems like it is consistently busy. I went to Hop Alley for dinner with my mother. Drinks are great, and their service was good. We were mainly disappointed with the chicken and octopus. Overall I would go here again, I'm thinking it was an off night judging from the rest of the reviews. We did eat it bc it was cooked so tender. I think the octopus made us the saddest bc it was cooked perfectly tender, but way too salty. We booked this place specifically to try the a #5 Zi Ji Li - battered chicken - with fried schiuan, chili spice and the #3 Mala Octopus- 3yr aged doubanjiang, Merlot Napa cabbage Serrano green Sichuan vinaigrette. #4 Fried wontons - tabiko cream cheese scallions, duck sauce - nothing special, I ordered it bc my son is picky and wanted him to try something different - he would not try anything else. #3 Bone marrow fried rice - was great, but did order it without the peas and scallions for my son. I mean who eats Mapo tofu with out rice anyway.

Still a little too salty, but manageable when you eat it with rice. #2 Mapo Tofu - ground pork, fermented chili paste leek garlic, was probably our favorite, it was prepared differently from your traditional mapo tofu. But it was actually really different and delicious. I’ll start with the best first - We ordered: #1 Turnip Cakes - made with lap cheong, Shrimp, black garlic, pickled turnip- I was hesitant to order this bc I imagined the dish you get at dim sum. I really wanted to love this place, but overall. Our waiter was great, and the drinks were fantastic. We were so excited to try out Hop Alley, and we were lucky to get reservations at the last min. Hop Alley is a treat, and we can't wait to revisit! More The La Zi Ji (fried chicken thigh w/ sichuan chili spices) is also a staple, but be warned that if you're not into spicy dishes, this is probably not for you. Highly recommend the Gai Lan (grilled Chinese broccoli) - one of the most flavorful dishes I've ever had. The food is incredible, and was consistent both times we were there. You can also see into the kitchen from most seats in the restaurant which is always fun to watch the chefs and servers at work. It reminds me of restaurants in New York City more-so than Denver, but I consider the use of space a positive, adding to the atmosphere. The restaurant is quite small, and they manage to accommodate a lot of guests in the small space. When we arrived the second time, there was already a group of people waiting outside so highly recommend reservations to be sure you get a table. into a table since we were there as soon as they opened.

The first time we had a reservation, and the second time we got very lucky and were able to sneak. My husband and I have been to Hop Alley twice in the last year, once just the two of us and again with another couple.
